What Leadership Course Are You Taking?
There are a lot of leadership course offerings out there. Selecting the right one can be a difficult choice. All too often, leadership development in organizations has simply gotten down to checking a box that says “been there, done that.” The leadership training for most companies consists of going through the motions versus getting real leadership development. This leads to thinking that only heads of departments, senior leaders, etc are the only ones who need leadership training.
But imagine everyone on your team being a leader. At first, you might think that there can only be one leader of a team. While this is true, you want to have leaders on the team. And if everyone is a leader imagine what a powerful team you would have.
First of all let’s get an understanding of what leadership is. There are two types of leadership. There is formal leadership and there is self leadership. Formal leadership is leading others in some sort of formal organized setting. This would include departments, work groups, association committees, etc. Formal leadership is the traditional type of leadership we are most familiar with. Self leadership, on the other hand, is the ability to lead yourself so that you achieve the results you desire. Self leadership is the ability to set a direction for yourself and lead yourself in that direction.
Leadership Course For Self Leadership
Consider that before anyone leads successfully in a formal setting they first have to master the skill of self leadership. Here’s why. Leadership boils down to getting results. There are a lot of things that go into getting results starting with establishing what results you want to get. Then you have to get buy-in from the team members, establish action plans, and so on. Before you can get results from others you first have to be able to get results from yourself.
This is where a lot of leadership development training falls short. Most leadership courses have training about how to get results in a formal setting, but make very little application of how to lead yourself. An example of self leadership is when there are things you know to do and you do them. Think about it. If you were able to do what you know to do wouldn’t your results be different? Of course they would.
That’s the whole idea behind Leadership Development Essentials. In LDE we focus on the three foundation building blocks of leadership which are: attitudes, skills, and goals. LDE is the premiere online leadership course for leadership development. LDE not only focuses on leadership in a formal setting, but also on self leadership.
When everyone on the team is accomplished in self leadership, the team is a powerful force. The only way to develop a team of leaders is to develop the leadership skills of each of the team members. Whether is improving communication skills, goal setting, or gaining commitment from others, leaders have to have effective training to move to the next level.
In order to be able to set the right leadership course, you have to first attend the right leadership course!
